She's not saying that you got a scholarship because you are Hispanic AND got a good score. She's saying you got it because you are Hispanic, full stop. That's what she is arguing: that there are scholarships for minorities that they are given ONLY BECAUSE they are minorities. affirmative action isnt just choosing random brown & black people & letting them go to college w/out trying. it actually helps white women the most, since they're a minority because gender. not to mention anyone who works in the military can be considered into affirmative action, which means it helps whites more as a whole. plus all they need is one 'diverse' person to be considered following affirmative action. read Racism without Racists internalized racist. whites don't give a fuck about us.

I know that, it’s about leveling the playing field for people of all backgrounds. Women have not been a minority in college demographics since the 80’s. I don’t think anyone cares that someone who has served their country for the last few years gets an advantage in college admissions. I mean that’s true but colleges never do that, seeing as they usually have 50-60% of whites on their campus at most. There’s always a sizable portion of the campus that is considered, not just one or two people here and there unless you go to KKKU.

Okay, wait up. So your girlfriend is going around saying "my boyfriend got a really low score but got the same scholarship as I did, this shows that things are easier for non-white people"? And you're defending this? You are defending her going around telling people that she thinks that you got things you didn't deserve? This is bringing up your self esteem? I got a higher score than her. She also constantly tells me she can’t believe how hard I work. She’s saying that I got a scholarship ENTIRELY because I am Hispanic and got a good score…. which is true. Because it’s not given to non-Hispanics.

She’s not a bigot or a racist. What she says is entirely true. The affirmative action system, while a good idea on paper and well intentioned, is executed horribly. A rich black man looking to apply to colleges faces none of the problems that affirmative action tries to erase and gains all the benefits. The entire system of affirmative action is bigoted within itself due to it basically saying “hey, you’re hispanic/black. You must’ve grown up in a bad environment. Have a handout. “

I absolutely appreciate the value of a system that evens the playing field for those less fortunate, such as minorities that grow up below the poverty line or something like that. HOWEVER, the system as is does not solve the problem entirelyl, as it gives massive benefits to affluent minorities who grow up in great situations.

I agree with the idea of affirmative action. My girlfriend and I both agree, however, that the system as is not executed well. That is what she is trying to say.

I'm really sorry you have bought in to the idea that non-white people are lesser than white people. You've been very misinformed about how the National Merit Scholarship works. I really suggest you contact them so they can explain, because I can't put the URL in here. Please believe that your race was not why you were considered - they were recognizing academic achievement, and that is not merely based on the PSAT score. (Also, a new girlfriend might help your self-esteem.)

my bad, i didnt get NMS, i got national hispanic scholar. Which is only valid for hispanics. Thats what I mean when I say that I would not have gotten it otherwise. my girlfriend is amazing and brings up my self-esteem everyday, stop trolling.

So what exactly did she mean when she said that your score was lower than white people, but you are a National Merit Scholar anyway? Pretty sure she's saying that the only reason you got recognized was for your race, not for your hard work. I'm really sorry you're stuck with a racist for a partner. That has to be tough.

she means that if I was fully white, I would not have gotten recognition for my PSAT score, which is absolutely true. thats because the only reason I got recognized for my score WAS my race haha.
